Yarnable Apologizes for the sudden loss of Users Data

On the night of Saturday the 14th of May, 2011 at exactly 2030 hrs (Nigerian Time), we suffered a major technical hitch as a result of a routine maintenance check by our hosting company, which resulted to a loss of users data.
The Scope of the loss covers;

We had delayed all formal publication about yarnable since the acquisition to enable the new team establish full grip of the yarnable structure and develop strategic plans toward the improvement of the future yarnable.

We have had to suspend our initial decision because of the recent event within the last 36 hours. We assure you that we have laid  structures to avoid future occurrence and we are acquiring more infrastructure to boost the yarnable platform and make it worthwhile for our esteemed users.

I have no interest in disclosing the sold figure, but I would like to say it was appreciable. ;)

While the change of ownership is in progress; users may not experience immediate changes on the site, however the Yarnable blog will remain abreast of what is going on!

I also want to ensure all Yarnable users that they need not to panic, Yarnable is here to stay and bring to both your computer screen and mobile phones, an amazing stream of Yarns!

I may work with the new stake holders on part-time bases, but that depends on their decision.

Yarnable Goes to a Stealth State!

"I'll be updating Yarnable core & redesign the whole platform to portray the real sense of what it is meant to be. A micro-discussion site!"
@mukoshy

Well, with a lot of questioning and interaction with the users I came to realize that my major purpose of building Yarnable is exactly NOT what the ecosystem portrays. From the day I incubated Yarnable right from papers, it was not a micro-blogging site as most people take it to be!

In one of my interviews with Oluniyi David Ajao, i struggled to explain its differences from twitter or any micro-blogging platform.

So, for the next few months; I will be restructuring the core engine and also improve the user-interface. It will take me some time, because I am also working on releasing v2 of its twin sister site, the URL Shortner as well as expand my hosting company Aimtech Limited.

Yarnable development started as a hobby and will continue to remain so!

To all the 300+ users of Yarnable, I hope you will continue to yarn while it gets better... Yarnable is here to stay!

Yarnable v2 prereleased.

About a month ago, Yarnable v2 was released with additional features like twitter integration, yarnable notes, brand new discussions layout; improved yarn features (reYarn, reply, comment), board subscriptions of upto 5 boards, and a complete new layout.

However, the site is yet to be stable with bugs to be fixed; but it is running smoothly.

I am having my final year exams soon and I also have seminar & industrial training defences to do. That has caused slow developement phases to yarnable, however i will update it timely, by fixing bugs.

Thank you for following up with yarnable.

Yrn.me Tweet Button, Drag & Drop

I announcing the new Yrn.me tweet button yesterday on twitter:

" Click to tweet, launched today by http://yrn.me checkit out, simple button for your browser to tweet web sites ;) http://yrn.me/jt13i "
- @mukoshy

With the Drag and Drop simplicity, It takes 2 seconds to install the new tweet button to your browser. Once installed, you simply click on it while browsing any web site to tweet it in a short format eg. http://yrn.me/jt13i

If you are registred on yrn.me, every link you tweeted will also be automatically added to your account provided you were logged in.

The transition is swift, clicking on the Button at any time will quickly take you to twitter in lessthan a second with the shortened link. ;)

More to it coming as yrn.me still lives in the lab.

Thank you.
Yrn.me is a mini-url shortner, built by @mukoshy

Behind the scene, Yarnable 2.0

Yes, I decided to go underhood with the Yarnable developement. In my own ways, I believe it will be more impressing to the users and above all more secure for the platform, since idea scarvengers have begun to emulating it.

While Yarnable will continue to have series of minor updates, a major system upgrade is under developement behind the scene. Hopefully in less time than you can image, we would launch a bigger platform called Yarnable 2.0.

The Yarnable 2.0 will have additional features, services and above all more user friendly ;)

Thank you.

Founder, Yarnable.Com

Yrn.me had amazing updates, worth checking out!

Newyrn

In the past 24hrs, yrn.me has experienced series of updates in an attempt to better the services and build more features on to it.

I am more than pleased to write about its new features.

Earlier on, yrn.me was a typical url shortner that can shorten any link. Providing its users with tiny links that are more social friend for tweeting, sharing on facebook and almost any thing.

But today, yrn.me will shorten your links and keep a statistics of visits. Though this data compilation is still been cooked, at present it will allow you to see how many visits your link had and also from where the visits came from as well as the date and time of visit.

To view the statistics of any link, simply add a hypen to its end such as http://yrn.me/yarnable- (this will show the statistics of http://yrn.me/yarnable)

We have also added a user account feature, which allow registered users to manage their urls from their accounts and also keep up with their link statistics. The registration is free and will remain so, infact more features will come for registered users. ;)

A user account will allow you to create customized links, such as http://yrn.me/{anything}, making your shortened links more descriptive. But this feature is available only to registered members.

Added to the services also includes a browser Bookmark Button, which we call Shrinklet, simply the diamond of the new updates.

The Bookmark Button is easy to install by just dragging it to your browser bookmarks. It allows both registered and non registered users the ability to shorten any page they are viewing and would like to share it with others.

Once clicked, it will automatically generate a short link in 2 seconds. For registered users (with accounts logged in on their PC) it will also add the link to their account simultaneously.

Another key thing to note is that, the yrn.me Home Page now shows 5 top ranked links. It will allow yrn.me visitors to have a peep on the hottest links on the system.

More will be coming soon as we develop the system better, enjoy shrinking your links

Yarnable went public last Saturday in Lagos!

(download)

Yarnable... Yarnable.... Yarnable... The hype kept on moving both online and offline, but for a month we restricted access to invitation from selected web sites.. That was pretty mean, but it was for the good.

During the private beta, we identified so many bugs on the platform which kept us debugging for month. Thus, the private session ease our stress towards ensuring the platform works perfectly and effectively. This is because, the platform is being built from scratch.

Last Saturday, Ahmad Mukoshy was in Lagos (Nigeria) to release yarnable.com to the general public at  BarCamp Nigeria 2010 event which held in University of Lagos at CITS Building. The event was successful and yarnable was opened to the general public on that day.

Part of the key notes of @mukoshy's speech include:

  1. Yarnable is here to stay, with innovative ideas to follow its development over time.
  2. Yarnable will link you to major social sites, auto connecting your activities in real time.
  3. Mobile communication will be added to yarnable to make on the go yarning interesting and catchy.
  4. An intelligent command-line system will be developed to easy interaction with the yarnable platform.
  5. Yarnable will also build an advance search technology which will pull information (when need) related to your yarns from across the web.

More features were also highlighted at the event, such as ability for users to subscribe to yarnable upcoming channels and much more.

During the event, yarnable users were following the trending keyword yarn #bcnigeria aside twitter. The keyword was the official tag for the event chosen by the BarCamp officials to tag discussions about the event on social sites, more especially Twitter.

Though yarnable is still running on a core php-apache technology, in time we will improve both programming technologies and probably even jump to a framework to easy the development sessions.

During the public beta release of yarnable in Lagos, we also launched a basic search to the platform which will also be improved in no time.

Users also reach their profiles from the yarnable pretty url syntax. (http://yarnable.com/username) eg. http://yarnable.com/mukoshy
